NSF Support for US based participants of ICMP 2012
Deadline for
applications: 15 March 2012!
Funding is available for a block travel grant from the
National Science Foundation for the
XVIIth
International Congress on Mathematical Physics and the Young Researchers Symposium both to be held in Aalborg,
Denmark, August 3--11, 2012. This grant will provide support for
young researchers, post-docs and advanced graduate students, at US institutions within 5 years of the PhD.
Women and members of
under-represented groups are especially encouraged to apply.
Application procedure
Submission
All materials must be submitted in pdf format to icmp2012@hotmail.com.
Deadline
Applications must be received by 15 March 2012. Successful applicants will be notified during the week of 15 April 2012 by email.
Late applications will receive a lower priority or will not be considered
at all when funds are exhausted.
The Application must include
- A cover letter explaining the applicant's interest
in the congress and other possible funding sources.
- Curriculum Vitae, including a list of publications.
- Brief (one page) description of the applicants research (may be part of the cover letter).
- A letter
of recommendation from a senior scientist.
Submission of applications
The grant will be administered by Peter D. Hislop at the
Mathematics Department of
the University of Kentucky.
The preferred format for applications is a single PDF file, which
should be sent as an attachment to an e-mail message to the address
given above. Applicants should also request
the senior scientist to submit the letter in support of their application
by e-mail to the above address.
Selection criteria
- Scientific excellence
- An indication that the applicant's future research and professional
growth will benefit from participation in the conference.
- Researchers who have travel funds available from regular NSF
grants or other sources are not eligible unless they request matching funds.

Applications will be reviewed a Selection Committee consisting of the following
members:

Amount of award
We anticipate being able to fund travel for approximately fifteen
young researchers. Travel must be on US carriers when possible in accordance with NSF regulations.
Awards will be sufficient to cover the cheapest airfare to Aalborg (with a US
carrier when possible), modest room and board in Aalborg, and a special reduced registration fee for the YRS and ICMP available to grantees.
Participants will be expected to attend BOTH the Young Researchers Symposium and the ICMP 2012.
Contributed Talks
Successful applicants will be able to submit an abstract for a contributed talk in the Young Researcher Symposium. Submission may be made on the web page at: Contributed Talks
