Title: Calculus II: The Tilted Bottle Lab

The `bottle lab' been a very successful laboratory project. Tilting
a bottle until liquid come out is an everyday experience but very
few people believe that a tilt of almost 70 degrees is required
to get fluid from a glass that is 80 percent full. The context is
quite flexible. It is easily generalized from cylindrical to conical
containers for which analytic solutions can be realized with Maple.
If one is willing to use numerical techniques then one can have
students develop more realistic models for the bottles and still
have solvable problems. One extension we have not yet tried is to
use this as a moment exercise, having students calculate the angle at
which a tilted bottle with fluid just starting to emerge will be
ambivalent as to whether it moves to fall over or right itself.
