Text: Lay, Linear Algebra (4th edition), Addison Wesley, 2011. We will cover most of chapters 1-6.
Test dates: (Tentative)
- Test 1: Thursday, Nov. 3
- Test 2: Thursday, Dec. 1
Grading policy: The breakup will be: Homework - 10%, Worksheets - 4%, 2 Midterm Exams - 28% each, Final exam - 30%.
Homework: Homework will be assigned assigned after each lecture, to be turned in at the start of the next lecture. Since there is not much time between Tuesday and Thursday lectures, those assignments will typically be shorter than the ones due on Tuesdays. Late homeworks will not be accepted, but the lowest score will be dropped.
Worksheets: The last portion of the class period will often consist of group work on worksheets. You may work together on worksheets, but you must submit your own assigment. These will be graded ``for effort'' rather than ``for accuracy''. Any absence will result in a score of $0$, but the lowest 2 scores will be dropped.
Exam policy: No use of notes or electronic devices of any kind (including calculators, smartphones, or ipods) will be permitted. Students will not be permitted to leave the room and reenter during an exam. Please plan accordingly.
Missed Exams: In the case of a valid, documented excuse, as outlined in the Student code, you will be allowed to make up a missed exam. Documentation for excused absences must be obtained from the Emergency Dean and turned in to me within one week of the missed exam. Be aware that a note from the Emergency Dean does not guarantee that you will be excused from the exam. Please also be aware that makeup exams tend to be more difficult than the original exams.
Disabilities: Students with disabilities who require reasonable accommodations to participate in this class are asked to see me as soon as possible. In particular, any accommodations for exams must be arranged a week in advance and will require a letter from DRES.
