File extension maps consist of:

• A file extension (.DAN)

• A program to `link’ to the file type

  • C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\WRITE.EXE

• A mime type (application/x-dan)

• An Icon to represent the file itself

• A description of the ‘action’ associated with the file (line item in a menu)
