Abstract:
Contingency tables have provided an initial ground for the growth of
algebraic statistics, with some of the earliest applications tied to the
problems of statistical disclosure limitation (SDL), that is of data
privacy and confidentiality. In this talk I will briefly review links
between algebraic statistics, log-linear models and disclosure limitation
strategies associated with contingency tables which protect against the
identification of individuals associated with counts in the tables. I will
illustrate the linkages through an example, and also present some new
results relevant for counting, sampling and optimizing over the space of
possible contingency tables in the applied SDL context.
