Abstract:
We show the Möbius function of certain naturally occurring filters in
the partition lattice can be computed by instead considering filters in
the integer compositions lattice. When the underlying integer
partition is a knapsack partition, the Möbius function on integer
compositions is determined by a topological argument. In this proof
the permutahedron makes a cameo appearance.
This is joint work with Richard Ehrenborg.
