Chapter Goals
The goals of the University of Kentucky chapter of the Association for Women in Mathematics include, but are not limited to the following:
- To increase knowledge of and interest in the Mathematical Sciences.
- To promote a greater understanding of the contributions of women in mathematics, and increase the visibility of women in mathematics.
- To create a network of support (both professional and social) for the women (undergraduate and graduate) who are studying math at University of Kentucky.
- To provide a safe and supportive platform on which issues pertaining to women in math can be discussed.
- To organize events that promote Inclusion and Diversity within the Department Of Mathematics at the University of Kentucky.
- To foster a sense of community among graduate students and the Department Of Mathemtics at the University of Kentucky.
- To encourage participation in research activities such as seminars, workshops, and conferences.
- To mentor and encourage women and girls as they pursue careers in mathematics, and assist them in advancing in their careers through professional development opportunities.
- To organize events that expand the future community of women mathematicians through outreach to local students as well as students from schools and colleges within and nearby Kentucky.
