The UK chapter of the Association for Women in Mathematics consists of undergraduate students, graduate students, and faculty from the University of Kentucky community who are interested in promoting and supporting women in mathematics.
The purpose of the Association for Women in Mathematics is to encourage women and girls to study and have active careers in the mathematical sciences, and to promote equal opportunity and the equal treatment of women and girls in the mathematical sciences.
Our goal is for all students, regardless of gender identity, to be exposed to the world of professional mathematics, to obtain information about the variety of career options in mathematics, to network with professional mathematicians, and to develop leadership skills.
Our group hosts a number of events each semester. Previously, we have organized panels for new graduate students and those beginning their job search, dinners to meet and converse with math department seminar guests, invited speaker events on issues pertaining to women in STEM fields, and informal social gatherings both on and off campus.
We would like to emphasize that our chapter and events are open anyone, regardless of race, color, religion, creed, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, ancestry, age, and any kind of disability.
If you would like to participate in any of our events, all you need to do is
- Check out the Upcoming Events, and
- Show up!
